obgleich, tametsi. quamquam (räumen stets wie unser »obgleich« die Voraussetzung einer faktischen Sache ein und haben daher gew den Indikativ nach sich, z.B. quamquam saepe eum rogaveram). – etsi (unser »obschon«, räumt die Voraussetzung jedes möglichen od. auch faktischen Falles ein und hat daher bald den Konjunktiv, bald den Indikativ nach sich). – licet (unser »es mag sein«, »zugegeben, daß etc.«, behält immer die Natur eines verbi impers. u. ist daher immer mit dem Konjunktiv eines Verbums verbunden, kann auch nie, wie die übrigen Kopulativpartikeln, einen verkürzten Satz bilden, z.B. licet altā voce clamaret). – quamvis (= »so sehr auch«, »obgleich noch so sehr«, kann nur auf Adjektiva, Adverbia u. Verba, deren Begriff eine Steigerung zuläßt, bezogen werden, z.B. quamvis non fueris suasor). – cum (= »da doch«, »wenngleich«, »wiewohl«, drückt im allg. eine Verbindung zum andern Satz aus u. hat deshalb immer den Konjunktiv nach sich, z.B. alii, cum [obgleich sie, trotzdem daß sie] ab omni bus defenderentur, securi feriebantur). – Oft im Latein. bl. durch eine Wendung mit dem Partizip, z.B. Cic. Sest. 140: Atque hunc tamen flagrantem invidiā (obgleich er [trotzdem daß er] sehr verhaßt war) propter interitum C. Gracchi semper ipse populus Romanus periculo liberavit; u.
